PhD position
Cell-specific functions of scavenger receptors in atherosclerosis
The ISD is a translational research institute primarily financed by foundation funds that bridges the traditional barriers between academic medicine and basic science (www.isd-muc.de). A major research focus is unravelling the mechanisms underlying large artery stroke.
Description
The project, which will be carried out at the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (Director: Prof. M. Dichgans), aims to study cell-specific functions of scavenger receptors in atherosclerosis - the prevailing cause of stroke, coronary artery disease, and peripheral artery disease. Techniques include single cell (sc)RNA-seq, proteomics, multiplex cytokine profiling, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and biochemical techniques as well as experimental studies in animal models of vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis.
Our requirements
The ideal candidate should hold an MSc degree in biomedical sciences or related fields and have experience with basic methods of molecular and cellular biology. Suitable candidate should be highly motivated with an interest in vascular biology and disease-oriented research.
Our offer
The position will be in the group of Prof. M. Dichgans and embedded in the Atherosclerosis Team led by Dr. Y. Asare (http://experimental-atherosclerosis.isd-muc.de/) - in an international, dynamic and “open-door” atmosphere, with access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and technologies. The applicant will work in a group of experienced staff, PhD students, Postdocs and technicians. Salary will be according to TV-L and the position funded for up to 3 years. The Ludwig-Maximilians-University is an equal opportunity employer. Individuals of all nationalities, genders, ages, and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply. We give priority to applicants with a disability and essentially equal qualifications.
