Offene PhD Stellen in Oulu, Finnland

Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, ECM and Hypoxia

18.01.2024

The University of Oulu is one of the biggest and most multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We create new knowledge and innovations that help to solve global challenges. We offer you an international and inspiring working environment where you are given responsibility and can use your skills, develop yourself and do work that matters. Our flexible and family-friendly workplace makes it easy for you to balance work and leisure. The University of Oulu is ranked in the top 3% of the world's universities.

We are now seeking for:

Three Doctoral Researchers who are highly motivated and talented to join our vibrant research community in//Biocenter Oulu and in a Research Council of Finland project within the ECM-Hypoxia Research unit at the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine.

The ECM-Hypoxia research unit (ECMH RU) (link) consists of five internationally strong research groups which perform globally recognized research on the extracellular matrix and hypoxia in health and diseases. We are equipped with leading-edge infrastructure in all fields of cell and structural biology. We are a highly international and interdisciplinary team.

About the job

The current projects aim to study new molecules interacting in hypoxia-signaling and metabolism, especially obesity. Our previous work shows that certain enzymes of the hypoxia pathway may act as central switches that could connect the networks for oxygen and nutrient supply. However, whether, and how, these switching mechanisms work is as yet unknown. This will be investigated in the work of this project.

If you are curiosity-driven and eager to interact with biochemists and structural biologists this might be an interesting offer for you.

Who are you?

In order to succeed and enjoy the position, we expect from you:

  • Master's or equivalent degree in a relevant subject area, such as cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, or medicine
  • You have a proven record in one or several of the following techniques: molecular cloning and cell biology, Crispr/Cas9-mediated gene editing, RNA interference, cell fractionation, co-IP, immunofluorescence, and live-cell imaging
  • Experience and knowledge in generation and analysis of gene-modified mice
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Ability to meet project deadlines
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • IT skills, and computational skills for data analysis would be an advantage (e.g. RNA-seq, proteomics)
